My name is Laurie Hutchinson and I am wife, mom to a beautiful active toddler and owner and lead instructor at Mountain Wave Adventures. I am certified in CPR, First Aid and have my Stand Up Paddle (SUP) Boarding Instructor certificate from Professional Stand Up Paddle Association (PSUPA).
I have spent majority of my life teaching and enjoying the great outdoors. I went to school for Outdoor Adventure Business Management where I gained the skills and certification to teach numerous adventure activities. After graduating College I spent 15 years running Summer Camps and year round Outdoor Education Centers for the Boys and Girls Club, YMCA and YWCA all over Canada.
After meeting my husband on an online dating website (Plenty Of Fish) I moved to the USA and started working for a local outdoor company called Gear Aid formally known as McNett. Gear Aid champions renewal by teaching people how to keep their well loved and expensive gear in like new condition, thereby increasing performance, saving money, and consuming less in the process. A mission all outdoor enthusiasts can get behind!
Although I enjoy my job at Gear Aid I have felt like I have missing my heart beat. I miss teaching families, kids and groups about the outdoors, pushing their boundaries, giving them new experiences that they will cherish and hopefully want to adapt into their lifestyle. Mountain Wave Adventures was born a year ago when I decided i need to regain my outdoor heartbeat. I have always been drawn to the water whether it is canoeing, whitewater kayaking, sea kayaking, wind surfing, wake-boarding or SUP Boarding. My mom is convinced I invented SUP Boarding when I was little as I use to stand up on my windsurf board and paddle around our local island using a broken kayak paddle (oh mom).
At Mountain Wave Adventures we focus on making sure you have the proper skills, techniques and equipment for your experience on the water. We offer lessons to families, groups, individuals and kids. In our lessons and tours we teach you water safety, marine navigation, paddle techniques, care and repair and give you the skills to succeed on the water. We understand that not everybody has a vehicle or transportation that can fit a SUP board that’s why offer drop off and pick up within a 20 mil radios of Bellingham downtown. If you enjoy our boards or products we use you can also purchase them on our website with a discount if you have participated in one of our programs (Lessons, Tours, Rentals).
Our long term goal is to open a nondenominational Outdoor Educations Center, Corporate Retreat Center and Family Camp.
